The footring is carved with a band of continuous key-fret, above which is another band of spiral scroll pattern

Description

The carved lacquer box and lobed silver container nearby both feature pairs of birds and flowers on their covers. There is a striking similarity in decoration, shape, and aesthetic appeal. Both boxes suggest that successful designs and shapes circulated among craftsmen, workshops, and beyond regional borders.
This circular, dark brown carved lacquer box features two birds with sweeping tail feathers flying amidst dense blossoms and leaves. One bird curves toward the center; the other faces inward. Deeply carved relief textures define the scene, enclosed by a wide border of repeating, spiraling scroll patterns. Intricate, rhythmic lines detail the plumage and foliage, creating a sense of movement across the dark, crowded surface.
