Description

Commissioned by former Cleveland Museum of Art director Sherman Lee (1918–2008) as a gift for his wife, this brooch incorporates an ancient Assyria hardstone seal that Lee brought back from his travels.
A gold pendant is suspended from a thick, black braided cord. The ornament consists of a vertical post hanging from a textured, tapered loop. It terminates in a horizontal bar extending in two directions: one end is a straight rod, while the other forms a two-pronged fork. Each prong curves slightly outward. The gold surface is highly polished and reflective, maintaining a smooth finish across the entire form.
