Description

Commissioned by former Cleveland Museum of Art director Sherman Lee (1918–2008) as a gift for his wife, this brooch incorporates an ancient Assyria hardstone seal that Lee brought back from his travels.
A gold pendant brooch features a wide, polished arch with a flared neck decorated with granulated triangles and small crosses. Suspended horizontally between the arch's ends is a blue-gray agate stone, carved with a leaping horned animal and flanked by beaded conical caps. The arch terminates in spherical points, each embellished with circles of tiny gold spheres.
