Description

From 1996 to 2003, Southam photographed the ongoing evolution of a small pond near his home in Cornwall, documenting each successive tenant’s attempts at improvements to the property. First a tree-lined bucolic nature retreat, then a stereotypical suburban garden complete with swing set and plastic lawn ornaments, the pond represents for Southam a microcosmic vision of the ever-shifting balance between human intervention and natural transformation.
