A vertical pen features a slender shaft split between solid dark blue lapis lazuli and green malachite with wavy bands. Ornate gold sleeves with carved foliate patterns encircle the top, center, and base. The instrument is topped with a narrow, open gold scoop, while the bottom terminates in a flared gold foot with matching raised designs. The split gemstone surfaces meet in a sharp vertical line, creating a striking contrast of color along the shaft.
