Description

Between 1966 and 1977, the beach in Atlantic City was a rich source of inspiration for Metzker, who created a poetic body of work based on moments of people enjoying leisure activities. This ambiguous image of two barely discernible figures walking under the boardwalk displays his keen sensitivity to natural illumination and his masterful ability to dissect and reassemble subject matter through the dynamic use of light and shadow. Hung below is a photograph by Harry Callahan, his teacher. Dudley P. Allen Fund 2007.206
