Did You Know?

The inscription identifying the Field Marshal on the lower right was written in larger, more casual calligraphy than any other in the album.

Description

The upper most figure in the center of the composition is the Heavenly Lord Liu Hou 劉後. He is accompanied by five Field Marshals of the Daoist pantheon dressed in military garb are, from right to left, Yang Biao 楊滮, Ning Shikua 甯世夸, Bi Zongyuan 畢宗遠, Gou Leiji 苟雷吉, and Ren 任.
An ink drawing on tan paper depicts six armored Daoist deities with light skin tones among billowy clouds. In the upper half, three deities face right and left. In the lower half, three more figures face various directions, holding weapons including a trident and staffs. Fine, calligraphic lines define their layered armor and swirling cloud patterns. Columns of black script label each deity, and a red seal marks the bottom-left corner.
