Did You Know?

Many early Greek coins are made from electrum, a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver.
An electrum coin of irregular, rounded shape features a pale gold, pitted surface. Three deep, recessed marks are hammered into its center. On the left, a square punch features a cross-like geometric pattern. A tall, vertical punch is flanked by the square mark and a jagged punch to the right. Along the upper right edge, white numbers are inscribed onto the textured metal.
