Did You Know?

Many early Greek coins are made from electrum, a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver.
A gold-colored electrum coin is irregularly rounded and pebble-like. Within a raised rectangular frame, a crouching lion faces left with its head turned back toward the right. The lion features an open mouth and a mane of textured, incised lines. Dark deposits and small pits detail the surface, especially within the recessed design. The stamped motif is centered on the uneven metal surface.
