Description

The depictions of rulers found on this coin represents a realistic type of portraiture, similar to that found on coins in the West.
A circular silver coin depicts the goddess Athena seated facing our left, wearing a crested helmet and draped robes. Her right hand rests atop a large shield embossed with a face. A spear leans against her shoulder as vertical Greek text reading "ΦΙΛΕΤΑΙΡΟΥ" fills the space behind her. She sits on a square stool marked with an "A," dark gray tarnish accenting the recessed areas of the raised relief.
