Description

This gold coin represents the reigns of the Kushana ruler, Vima Kadphises. The coin bears a portrait of the ruler on the obverse and various deities on the reverse. It is identified by an inscription in Kharosthi, the language used in northwestern India during the Kushan period.
A circular, warm-yellow gold coin features a worn, embossed profile facing left. The man has a pointed beard and wears a tall, tiered crown. In one hand, he holds a long, knobbed staff, while a tassel hangs from his shoulder. Greek-style script circles the edge of the textured surface. Throughout the metallic face, embossed details are softened from wear.
