Did You Know?

This double-edged short sword is a typical 19th-century example.

Description

This is a typical 19th-century double-edge short sword. The image of bats was chosen to decorate the brass mount because of their association with the idea of longevity and happiness.
A straight steel blade with a central ridge tapers to a sharp point, showing dark mottled patches. A horizontal brass guard curves upward on both sides, centering on a circular medallion. Above, a cylindrical golden handle is engraved with elaborate vine patterns and topped by a scalloped pommel cap. This cap repeats the circular motif within its scrolled edges, completing the vertical weapon.
