Description

Nicholas Hlobeczy's black-and-white and color photographs detailing natural subjects are as much about the revelation of the creative process as they are about the clarity of the finished print. His conceptual approach and technical style were influenced by his longtime friend and teacher Minor White. In Empty Cup, the lights and shadows emphasize the repetition of elliptical forms, as seen in the dirty, timeworn teacup and the partially revealed bowl whose outer edge echoes the shape of the cup. The detail in this image is so crisp that one can almost sense the loose dirt and grainy particles clinging to the ceramic surfaces.
