Did You Know?

The images of the seven bright stars that form the Big Dipper, the sun, and the moon are incised on the surface of this bronze bowl.

Description

This alms bowl engraved with an image of the sun, the moon, and the Big Dipper is believed to be used in shamanic rituals.
A muted gold bronze bowl with a wide rim and rounded base features a patinated surface incised with fine, dark lines. At the center, a circular moon sits among swirling clouds above a building nestled between willow trees and rocky hills. To our left, a bird flies; to our right, a constellation of seven circles appears. Small dark spots mark the exterior, depicting a landscape beneath a celestial sky.
