A vertically oriented lacquer and ivory panel depicts a bird scene against a dark brown surface. Center right, a large bird with iridescent feathers perches on a gnarled branch. Upper left, a smaller bird flies toward it, while a butterfly flutters at the top right. Delicate branches with white blossoms frame the composition, with individual petals drifting through the lower background. The light ivory and shell contrast sharply against the dark lacquer.
