Description

This figure was probably originally meant to serve as the decorative foundation to a larger object such as a casket or urn. In transition from decorative motif to independent work of art, the nether half may have been an addition, evidenced by the seam along its torso.
A dark bronze sculpture depicts a crouched, dragon-like creature facing our right with its head turned sharply back over its scaly body. The figure features short, clawed limbs and pointed ears, its open mouth revealing small teeth. Its long form tapers into a tail that curls upward. A mottled green and brown patina highlights the textured scales, creating alternating smooth and rough patches that catch the light across its muscular frame.
