One side of a gold coin features an inscription circling a central image. In relief, a springbok jumps to the right across a small patch of ground. The curved text "SUID-AFRIKA 1953 SOUTH AFRICA" borders the upper edge. At the bottom, "£1" is flanked by two small floral motifs. A raised, beaded border surrounds the polished gold design, which displays fine, linear scratches.
