Description

A shrewd woman is carrying on an affair with a painter. When her husband suddenly returns home, she quickly concocts a plan to prevent them both from being caught. Hidden beneath the table is the painter’s young apprentice who, unbeknownst to the painter, was also seduced by the woman.
A vertically oriented painting depicts lanky stylized figures within a landscape of vibrant, ornate vignettes. On our left, a man in an orange tunic gestures. In the center, a figure in blue brandishes a curved sword in a doorway. To our right, a woman sits in a pink-walled room. Above, thick swaths of paint form striped domes, while a sky of golden waves swirls over the multi-patterned architectural scene.
