A vertically oriented ink and tempera painting features horizontal rows of flowing black script framed by a thin gold and red border. Near the bottom, a striking hand-drawn blue line separates the text from a grid of four rectangular boxes containing smaller calligraphic characters. The aged cream-colored paper shows minor discoloration and wear at its edges. The text is fluid, filling the page with rhythmic curves and varying stroke thicknesses.
