Did You Know?

The fabric was dyed with madder and indigo.

Description

This fragment has a pattern of stylized plant forms. The design was achieved by applying wax to design areas and then dipping it in red madder dye with use of mordant. The brown color was produced by the presence of iron in the mordant used for those areas.
