Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on cream paper across two sketchbook pages depicts a coastal landscape. On the left, loose horizontal lines suggest a shore with small houses along the horizon. The right page features a cluster of rectangular buildings nestled among rounded foliage and rocks. Thick, dark strokes outline the roofs, while lighter, swift lines create texture. Gestural marks leave much of the paper empty, emphasizing the quick nature of the scene.
