Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two sketchbook pages depicts a gestural landscape. On the left, loose, grainy lines form a bushy tree and thin trunk. On the right, splotchy, zigzagging strokes suggest low-lying foliage and another slender tree. Bisected by the central crease, several horizontal lines span both pages to define ground planes. Frenzied, layered dashes of graphite against the off-white paper create a sense of movement.
