Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented off-white paper features a graphite drawing of a landscape sketch. Curved, looping lines across the top represent clouds. In the middle ground, scribbled, rounded shapes suggest a cluster of trees. Below, darker horizontal shading indicates land or water, with rounded outlines resembling rocks toward the lower left. At the bottom, cursive handwriting reads "Salem willows" (see "Inscriptions"). The composition is defined by varied line weights and light shading.
