Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on beige paper depicts two townscapes across sketchbook pages. On the left, loose, gestural lines form gabled houses and leafy trees nestled above a small cart. On the right, a larger house sits behind a fence, while a figure in the lower foreground drives a horse-drawn carriage toward the right edge. Cursive labels crown the top of the expressive compositions, identifying the coastal scenes as Annisquam and Gloucester.
