Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
Graphite on two horizontally oriented sketchbook pages depicts a loose landscape. On the left, sketchy lines outline a wooden pier with a small shelter and nearby boats. A horizontal horizon line spans both pages. On the right, a tall tree with frenzied, scribbled foliage overlooks two figures sitting on a bench. Broad, gestural strokes define the foreground terrain, while thin, rapid marks delineate the water and distant shoreline across the cream-colored paper.
