Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two sketchbook pages depicts houses, trees, and a utility pole. Scribbled, gestural lines form large trees surrounding a gabled house on our left. To our right, smaller houses and a thin church spire recede toward distant hills. The utility pole stands in the foreground, its lines intersecting with foliage. Quick, varied strokes outline the scene against cream paper without shading, emphasizing abstract and organic shapes.
