Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on two open sketchbook pages depicts a coastal village. On the left, a peaked roof structure stands near the water. Houses and buildings continue across the center seam toward the right, where a tall tree with rounded foliage rises. In the foreground, rapid, looping lines suggest several figures. The minimalist sketch consists of quick, thin strokes and no shading, leaving much of the paper surface blank.
