Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on off-white paper depicts a highly geometric gabled building raised on stilts. To the left, a smaller peaked structure connects via a dock. The main house features a single square window. Squat, rectangular forms are defined by dark gray lines, while layered, frenetic strokes in the foreground suggest water. Broad horizontal strokes across the background indicate clouds. The composition is rendered with quick, gestural marks, emphasizing the architectural structure.
