Description

This sketchbook contains 59 pages of graphite drawings and 16 watercolors made at various locations on Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on cream paper uses quick, gestural lines to depict a park across two sketchbook pages. Spindly trees frame the composition, their branches reaching upward through rapid, looping scribbles representing dense foliage. In the middle ground, a small building and simplified figures sit behind zig-zagging ground cover. The energetic, loose linework guides the eye from the foreground trees toward the distant, simplified structures in the center.
