Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A two-page sketchbook spread features a graphite and watercolor drawing of a garden overlooking a coastline. On our left, a figure with a light skin tone stoops among yellow plants near cursive text reading "all green." On our right, a person with a medium skin tone walks beneath a red umbrella near the word "sunlight." Dabs of yellow, green, and blue form trees and water beneath a wash of cloudy sky.
