Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two pages of an open sketchbook depicts a landscape in quick, dark lines. On the left, a gabled house stands amidst scribbled foliage. To the right, a tall tree with sweeping lines towers over simplified figures on a winding path. Simple outlines form rolling hills and clouds in the background. In the lower right corner, the word "Lanesville" is written in cursive.
