Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on beige paper depicts a house, fence, and church with loose, sketchy lines across two pages. On the left, a gabled house sits behind a fence, flanked by looping lines suggesting trees. On the right, a church steeple rises above background foliage. A simple wooden fence with vertical posts spans the foreground. Gestural lines texture the scene against the blank beige paper.
