Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two sketchbook pages depicts a landscape with loose, gestural lines. On the left, vigorous scribbles form dense foliage and a peaked roofline. The right page features a small house behind a fence, with two simplified figures with light skin tones and a small dog in the foreground. Scripted text reads "afternoon" at the top and "the Hill" at the bottom. Looping strokes create energetic movement.
