Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on cream-colored paper depicts a nude woman with a light skin tone in a dynamic pose. Facing right, her arms reach out as her left leg bends behind her and her right leg extends downward. Thin, gestural strokes outline her form on the left half of the page, leaving the right side blank. Sparse lines define her hair, and her minimalist silhouette emphasizes a sense of movement.
