Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A vertically oriented pencil sketch depicts a woman bending forward to reach for a standing child, both in profile facing our left with light skin tones. Rendered in minimalist, fluid outlines, the woman wears shorts and the child a short dress. These sparse marks are centered on aged sketchbook paper that shows signs of wear and slight discoloration around the edges.
