Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A vertically oriented graphite drawing depicts a nude woman with light skin tone standing against a plain page. Facing us, she tilts her head down with eyes downcast. Quick, loose lines define her short, dark hair. She crosses her hands over her lower abdomen, and her muscular legs are set apart. Varied, sketchy lines outline her form, with light marks indicating her breasts and the musculature of her legs.
