Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on two vertical, cream-toned sketchbook pages depicts three women in gestural lines. On our left page, a woman reclines leftward with knees bent. On our right page, two figures are positioned vertically. The top woman sits with her back turned, hair gathered at the nape. Below, a smaller figure in a wide-brimmed hat and full skirt sits with her back toward us. Page 49 is inscribed top right.
