Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented drawing in graphite on cream-colored paper depicts a central sailboat rendered with scribbled hatching. Two vertical masts support multiple sails; a large triangular sail curves outward to the left. The vessel's low, dark hull sits above sparse horizontal lines indicating water. Faint markings appear in the upper right corner, and small brown stains dot the bottom edge of the aged sketchbook page.
