Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on off-white paper spans two sketchbook pages. On the left, a large figure sits with their back toward us, leaning on their left arm. On the right, a reclining figure occupies the upper section with a smaller, standing figure positioned below. The sketches use loose, overlapping lines to define the forms against the plain surface.
