Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented drawing features graphite on cream-colored paper. A minimalist figure is rendered in loose, gestural lines, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and long garment. To the left of its head, a small crescent-shaped mark appears. Faint smudges and ghosting from other pages are scattered across the paper. The handwritten number 167 is visible in the bottom right corner.
