Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on off-white paper features two gestural sketches across an open sketchbook. On our left, a woman in a long, bunched skirt sits with her back toward us. To our right, another figure sits similarly, hair gathered at the top of her head. Loose, looping lines define their forms against the blank pages. The right page is marked '43' in the upper corner.
