Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing on two cream-colored sketchbook pages features gestural sketches of figures on a beach. On the left, a seated figure occupies the foreground beneath thin horizontal lines. On the right, a standing figure and a seated person appear above a large, rounded form in the bottom foreground. These minimalist strokes are accompanied by the number 95 in the upper right corner.
