Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two sketchbook pages features a coastal scene rendered with loose, gestural lines. In the lower left, cursive text reads "the Bridge Annisquam" below curly strokes representing foreground vegetation. A long horizontal structure spans the middle ground, positioned between a sailboat on our left and a small boat on our right. In the distance, simple outlines of houses and trees define the horizon against the blank paper.
