Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented graphite drawing across two open cream-colored sketchbook pages features loose, gestural marks. On the left, horizontal lines suggest distant hills and a simplified figure. On the right, denser scribbles create ambiguous forms resembling rocks. The cursive word 'Annisquam' is centered at the top, and the number '91' sits in the upper right corner. Energetic gray strokes vary in density and weight across both pages.
