Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
Graphite strokes across two sketchbook pages outline a coastal landscape with the cursive title "Rocky neck." On the left, gestural lines form a person looking out at two boats floating near a stone wall. The wall extends rightward above shaded, textured rocks in the foreground and houses on a hill. Loosely rendered trees and organic shapes fill the background, while the number "89" is inscribed in the top right corner.
