Description

This sketchbook contains 72 pages of pencil drawings and 9 watercolors of Cape Ann. On the inside of the cover Prendergast wrote the address of the Granite Shore Hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts.
A horizontally oriented watercolor and graphite sketch with loose washes and calligraphic lines spans an open sketchbook. Foreground right, a woman with a light skin tone in a white blouse and blue skirt stands with her back to us on yellow-green ground near potted red flowers. Beyond her, a harbor contains sailboats against a far shore of red, blue, and green buildings. Cursive script at the top left reads "pink drab."
