A vertical rectangular sampler features colorful wool cross-stitched designs on a beige linen ground. Three rows of alphabets top the piece above scattered motifs of flowers, birds, and a figure playing a flute. Text in the upper right corner reads 'MARS 1891'. The textile has frayed edges and red fabric strips along the top and bottom borders. Small holes and worn patches interrupt the woven surface throughout.
