A vertically elongated linen sampler features silk embroidery in muted blue, red, and green. Successive horizontal rows of alphabets and French text fill the upper half (see "Inscriptions"). Toward the bottom, decorative bands of stylized crowns and floral motifs alternate between geometric borders. The base contains a numbered sequence from 1 to 24 and the date 1717. Subtle horizontal creases mark the center of the weathered fabric.
